Key Stage 1 Modern Foreign Language (MFL) Day

On Wednesday 22nd November all Key Stage 1 children had the opportunity to take part in our annual MFL Day. The theme this year was ‘Bread Around the World’. The children were invited to talk about which breads they knew and had tried – perhaps on holiday or at a special celebration – and then looked at the symbolism of bread across different cultures and religions. The children learnt how to sing a 19th Century French nursery rhyme all about table manners, leading to interesting comments and comparisons to modern life in the UK. Each group had the chance to learn how to make a bread dough, using French words and instructions. Much fun was had mixing and kneading before finally tasting their loaves at the end of the day…all with varying degrees of success! A big thank you to the staff who helped facilitate the variety of activities, and to the children for all their enthusiasm. The results of the Bread Design and Creation competitions were announced in the last week of term.
