Nursery - Hedgehogs Class
Autumn 2026
All About Me
Hedgehogs have had a great few weeks settling into the nursery and have loved going to the library, woods and hall for the first time. We have got some great routines in place and are joining in really well with our morning songs.
This half term we are learning all about ourselves, including our families, friends and local community. For our friend’s week we made pasta bracelets for someone at school or home. We had to carefully thread the pasta onto the string and then give the bracelet to a special person.
Summer 2 2026
Big Moments
We have celebrated Father’s Day, Sports Day and Graduation this half term! We have been so busy!
All Around the World
We have started off our All Around the World Topic by setting up an airport in the classroom and learning about all the things we have to do in an airport. We talked about the safe things we need to pack in our suitcases and how to walk through security. The children loved pretending to do this themselves.
We visited so many amazing places on our journey around the world! We went to Mexico, France, Spain, Italy and Switzerland. We tried different food from these countries and learnt all about the country, including landmarks and weather. We have loved learning lots of new things!
We made our own croissants for France, tried wraps for Mexico and made our own sombreros.
We flew back to England at the end of our journey and talked about England and living in Overton. The children were proud to have so many great parks, cafés and the church in Overton. As we were in England and we had lots of windy weather, we decided to make some kites from straws, paper and string. The children loved flying them around the garden.
Summer 1 2026
How Things Grow
We learnt all about how animals and plants grow in this topic by looking at different life cycles and engaging in hands-on experiences. We also showed how we can take great care for living things.
I think one of our favourite parts of this topic was watching our very own caterpillars turn into butterflies. We enjoyed watching every stage of the life cycle and were sad when we had to let them go. We hope they enjoy life in the wildflower garden!
School Trip
We also had the best experience ever at Cholderton Rare Breeds Farm for our school trip. We got to see all the animals, including cows, chickens, peacocks, sheep and donkeys. We also got to plant our own sunflowers during a workshop with the farm assistant.
Arts Week
We had fun in Arts Week learning all about Ghana and Africa. We decorated our own Ghanaian flags and designed our own clothing patterns. We enjoyed dressing up in traditional clothes and learning about how they live differently to us.
Spring 2 2026
Once Upon a Time
This half-term we have learnt all about characters from stories like dinosaurs, superheroes, pirates and space. We have enjoyed pretending to be these characters and have had themed role-play areas for each week. We have also enjoyed joining in lots of different challenges to do with our topic. We were lucky enough to get some letters from Captain Cookie with lots of different challenges for us. After we completed all the challenges, Captain Cookie sent us on a treasure hunt and we found some treasure!
For space, we loved painting our own solar system! Look how super it is.
We had a special delivery of some eggs at the start of March and loved watching them grow into little chicks. They were so fluffy and cuddly.
For Mother’s Day we had a special morning where a special person came into Hedgehogs Class and played with us. We were doing dinosaurs so our families got to play dinosaurs with us. We loved sharing our classroom with our adults.
Spring 1 2026
How Things Work
This topic was based around the Understanding the World area of learning. We looked at transport, materials, technology and causes and effects, e.g., melting. We also celebrated New Year, Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day. We loved exploring magnets, ice, gloop, soda and vinegar reactions and mixing colours. We also enjoyed finding out how construction vehicles and Beebots work.
For transport week, we made our own boats out of recycling given to us and tried to make our boats float. We experimented with which materials float in the water and talked about whether our boat would hold a person in it without sinking.
For maths this term, we enjoyed making bridges for maths day and safer walls for Humpty Dumpty to sit on! We used a real egg to test our walls.
